Maryam Nawaz Launches Historic Traffic Reforms in Punjab 100-Point Plan to Modernize Road Safety and Enforcement

Maryam Nawaz

For the first time in recent memory, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has presented a 100-point plan to improve traffic in Punjab. The province is praising the work done under the initiative as a top-to-bottom effort to modernize traffic law, increase safety and correct behavior, encourage innovation and measure performance.

A meeting led by the Chief Minister included stakeholders from law enforcement and urban planning focused on making sweeping changes to the province’s rules on traffic management. Those changes are likely to reduce traffic offenses, improve traveling for commuters and prevent accidents on busy roads in both urban and rural parts of Punjab.

Key Highlights of the Traffic Reforms Plan

1. A big rise in the number of traffic tickets has been recorded.

A top news item is the increase in traffic fines by a factor of ten which was created to stop routine rule breakers and help maintain order on the roads.

Based on the latest policy, the company now follows:

If a company violates the agreement for a second time, the penalty will rise by 5%.

Proposed fines will be charged based on which vehicle you own.

Fines for Luxury Vehicles: 10 times bigger than for regular vehicles

Sworn Renegade isn’t bothered by public transport fines; it’s 5x for him.

For general citizens, there is a twice higher fine to 10,000 roubles.

As a result, officials can ensure even enforcement, as privileged drivers cannot attempt to avoid punishment.

Parents of Underage Drivers to Face Criminal Charges

A greater number of people are receiving fees for traffic offenses.

One of the most widely reported actions is the tenfold rise in fines for traffic lawbreakers.

With the new policy, there will be:

After a first violation, each further offense will result in an increased penalty of 5%.

The amount you will be fined will depend on whether you are driving a motorcycle, car or truck.

Luxury Vehicles: Result in a fine 10x bigger than the normal one

When using public transport, the fine is increased by five times the standard amount.

People Not Governing: 2x standard fine

Because of this system, privileged drivers cannot get away with violating laws.

Crackdown on Reckless Driving and One-Wheeling

Criminal charges will be filed against anyone caught engaging in one-wheeling, overspeeding or reckless driving, the Chief Minister stated. As a result, the police switch from being lenient to using zero-tolerance when the public motorists get together on holidays and weekend drives when such adventures are higher.

Body Cameras and In-Camera Challans

To achieve openness and responsibility in managing traffic laws:

Cities with populations above 100,000 will have 10 body cameras and those under that number will have 3.

Now, traffic challans are supported by both video and picture evidence.

Wardens will now use “in-camera” challans to reduce both disputes and corruption.

As a result, people trust traffic police more and the chance of confrontation between officers and drivers is lowered.

Road Engineering and Infrastructure Upgrades

CM Maryam Nawaz gave orders to deal with problems quickly on Bedian Road and other busier roadways in Lahore.

The plan goes further by including:

Over 372 intersections across Punjab are being updated and 77 of them are in Lahore.

The use of digital boards and devices that warn when traffic jams are possible is being considered.

Trolleys carrying goods can disturb the free flow of traffic on main roads, so a parking ban is necessary.

Focus on Proactive Prevention

Effective measures that prevent accidents are true success, according to the Chief Minister. As a result, strict actions were imposed on:

Vehicles whose headlights are not functioning

Cars or trucks loaded with things such as hanging chains and exposed steel rods

Cars found to be in violation will immediately be impounded and the owner will face legal penalties.

Institutional and Structural Reforms

IIn order to maintain these changes over the long term, CM Maryam Nawaz approved a complete overhaul of the traffic police department into five distinct tasks.

Enforcement Officer – Thoroughly applies the law

Traffic flow and Congestion-Traffic Regulator

Education Officer – Spreading knowledge and carrying out school presents

Licensing Officer – Controls the issue and renewal of licenses

Responsible for processing people’s issues and services

The purpose of this structure is to make each part of the traffic police more specialized and more answerable for their actions.

Upgrading Equipment and Patrol Capabilities

he Punjab government has made the purchase of additional fuel possible.

Tickets in the mail

The best digital technology available today

New ways of monitoring safety

Wardens will use them to manage traffic live, with better results and quick enforcement.

Legislative Backing and Legal Amendments

There is a rapid effort from the government to bring laws into line with the proposed reforms. This includes:

Changes to the National Highways Safety Ordinance 2000

The changes made to Section 116-A and the Twelfth Schedule to suit Digital Challaning Systems

A section of the ordinance uses a mutatis mutandis analogy which we can use to arrange our fine steps.

Once this becomes law, it will give wardens the authority and framework they need to enforce helps smoothly and openly.

Public Awareness and Education Campaigns

By strengthening punishments, the government will also distribute information campaigns to the public.

Talks in schools

Advertising geared toward informing people

Using digital displays and road-side information billboards

Telling the community, especially recent drivers, about the risks of not following the rules is very important for this initiative.

Why These Reforms Matter

Because of higher traffic volumes in cities, Punjab has had more difficulty with road safety. These include:

The number of accidents increasing among young people

A lot of time is lost in productivity because of traffic jams.

A negative way that the public interprets police traffic control

The plan created by Maryam Nawaz Sharif directly covers these issues, mixing use of laws, advanced technology, openness and responsibility.

The Road Ahead: From Policy to Practice

The aim of the reforms is ambitious and advanced, though their effectiveness will depend on:

Having strong implementation where it matters most

Organization among traffic, municipal and police departments

Each individual doing their part by working with the government

CM Maryam Nawaz will see for herself how traffic is handled to ensure the government enacts meaningful actions.

Final Thoughts

Maryam Nawaz’s new traffic program is revolutionizing road safety across Punjab. Using stronger penalties, new methods and law enforcement together with education makes this initiative more complete for managing traffic.

All citizens need to make changes, team up and add to efforts for safer road use. Law enforcement can use this chance to build trust again and perform at a high level.
